1. Although I believe all of these individuals had great influence over Charles Darwin, I believe Jean-Baptiste Lamark had the most significant influence.
2. Jean-Baptiste Lamark is responsible for the, “discredited theory of heredity, the ‘inheritance of acquired traits’”.
3. The point which is affected by Lamark’s work is that, “in order for traits to evolve and change, they MUST be heritable”. This is because Lamark discussed how one inherits their traits which their parents or ancestors acquired over time through adaptation so surroundings.
4. Although Lamark was the first individual who proposed such ideas, Darwin may or may not have developed his theory of natural selection, without it, depending upon if it could have been proposed by someone other than Lamark, or if he came to it on his own.
5. Although Darwin published and presented his book On the Origin of Species, it essentially took him twenty years to do it, because he had been looked down on by the church and even some colleagues.

Direct and to the point. I like how you used numbers to make it clear you are answering all the questions. Excellent argument for Lamark being the most influential in Darwin's work. I look forward to reading more from you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the course!
I agree that Lamarck was the most influential. I do agree with your point on how Darwin probably couldn't have developed his theory fully if it was not for the groundwork that Lamarck laid for him. This was a very good argument, I liked your approach. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI saw a couple things on the internet when I was reasearching that said Lamarck was in no way, shape or form responsible for shaping Darwins theory. I thought that was just absolutely ludacris. I've never heard of this dude before the other day when I was doing my research and blog post but after reading what I read I cannot see how you would ever think that! I am glad to see that we both found a similar viewpoint regarding Lamarck and the groundwork he laid for Darwin.
ReplyDeletestay fresh to death
This is a little briefer than I was looking for. You have the main points but this was asking for more in-depth coverage. For example, you named Lamark's work but didn't describe it completely as requested.
ReplyDeleteA couple of points:
When you provide a link, make sure it actually links to your source when you click on it.
Regarding your "may or may not" comment in number 4, I'm actually asking you to choose one or the other! Stick your neck out and decide what you think might have been the situation.
Finally, from your last section, you are right the Darwin felt immense pressure from the church, but it wasn't really an issue of "being looked down upon". Darwin was aware of the view of the church and he was concerned about the repercussions onto his family if he did publish.
Again, you've got the basics but you need to expand, clarify and do a little more to answer the questions posed.
You have a good baseline but I think he was influence as they all were but he gave Darwin another concept to add to his works. I imagine Darwin had his work cut out for him when he had to research the work of these other colleagues.
